Every item you purchase at Trek, just tell the person at the register that you are a Barrie TC Baydog member, and 10% of that purchase will go back to the club, thus helping us help you as we move forward through 2011 and beyond!

Barrie TC 100 Day Run Challenge

The BTC 100 Day Run Challenge will commence on Sunday February 20th, 2011 and conclude on Tuesday May 31st, 2011 (14 weeks and 2 days) for paid BTC Members only.

The goal of the Challenge is to help you get started with a running/ training program and to have some fun doing it.

The minimum requirement is doing 30 minutes for the run to count. It can be outdoors or on a treadmill, but it must be running (no water running, no elliptical trainer). Any runs as part of other run programs qualify towards your daily requirement for this Challenge.

Walking does not count.

A $10 entry fee per person will be requested to offset a huge PARTY on Thursday June 2 at The Lockeroom (BTC Social Night) to celebrate our accomplishments and present some well deserved AWARDS and maybe a little SWAG!

Here are some of the simple ground rules:
• You can take days off
• You can double up runs in a day
• You can take rest days
• You get no credit for going hard
• You get no credit for going long
• You can go as slow as you want

For a run to count as a double, it must be separated by at least 45 minutes. This means you can count a run-swim-run, run-bike-run, run-weights-run, as 2 sessions as long as the thing in between lasts for at least 45 minutes.

So here are the 100 Day Run Challenge Clubs:
1. Platinum Club = Avg. of 7 runs per week (100 runs in 100 days)
2. Gold Club = Avg. of 6 runs per week (84 runs in 100 days)
3. Silver Club = Avg. of 5 runs per week (70 runs in 100 days)
4. Bronze Club = Avg. of 4 runs per week (56 runs in 100 days)
5. Participation Club = Avg. of 3 runs per week (42 runs in 100 days)

This is great training for anyone doing a full or half marathon or an early season triathlon, and you'll be shocked by how quickly you accumulate mileage, all without getting injured...because the focus is keeping them short and aerobic. By all means feel free to run longer than 30 minutes, but the main goal here is to get you out the door, 4-7 times per week.

There will be a party at the conclusion of the challenge on Thursday June 2 at The Lockeroom (BTC Social Night) where each person who achieved their goal will be rewarded with a gift (thinking medals) commemorating their achievement.

We will set up an 'Excel Spreadsheet' where you are able to enter your daily runs (number of runs, distance and time). We will have to rely on the HONOR SYSTEM for this. Once again this is meant to be fun and not a competition.

PS: Question about runs shorter than 30 minutes?

We want to encourage people to run whenever possible. If you run less than 30 minutes, no, you don't get credit for doing a "complete" run for your final "club" status. However, there are times when you can't get the entire thing in because you have to emphasize another sport or you only have time for a 15 minute transition run, or you have to get groceries or get to work. So we still want to encourage you to run and there can still be some form of credit for the minutes and distance on a cumulative basis.

So basically let's say you do a 15 minute run covering 3K. You cannot enter this as a "complete run" for your "club status", however, what you CAN do is add these 15 minutes in your entry for the next run...so if your next run is 45 minutes, and 9K, just put it in as 60 minutes and 12K and take some partial credit for it. (You cannot add two 15 minute runs to count for a single 30 minute run...you have to run 30 minutes continuously in one training session for it to count as a whole run)

Upcoming Registration Dates

Couldn't make it to the Registration Night on January 28th? That's alright! There are many ways you can become a Baydog for 2011:

ONLINE & TREK BICYCLE STORE - Club Fees can be paid via PayPal through the website, and the waiver forms can be picked up/signed/submitted to the Trek Bicycle Store. Just let them know that you are with the Barrie TC Baydogs. once you pay your club fees online, you will receive a confirmation e-mail, but you are not an official member until the waiver forms are signed.

REGISTRATION NIGHT/TREK OPEN HOUSE - on Tuesday March 1 from 7 - 9, the Trek Bicycle Store is having an open house, and providing an opportunity for athletes to register for the Barrie TC Baydogs 2011 season.

GEORGIAN MALL COMMUNITY BOOTH - on Saturday March 5, the Barrie TC Baydogs will be manning the community booth at the Georgian Mall to field questions and register individuals for the 2011 season.

What do I get when I join the Barrie T.C.?

Many people ask this question, so I thought I would post the information here. Aside from the great people that you meet by joining the Barrie T.C., there are a lot of great benefits:

The Benefits:
As a club sanctioned under the Ontario Association of Triathletes (OAT), we offer a wide range of services that include:

Coaching Tips & Techniques:
Members have first access to a number of sport specific coaches and experts that offer a number of triathlon specific sessions throughout the year.

Social Events:
All work and No play... not at all! Every month our social director plans a members get together. We celebrate our accomplishments, talk swim/bike/run with like minded folks, and share a few laughs.

Competition:
Compete against yourself, with or against fellow Baydogs, or even against other clubs. There is never a shortage of challenges for you to partake in!

Scheduled group activities (such as bike rides, runs and swims):
Every week we host a number of group activities including speed work drills, yoga, hill work, recovery runs, and our long group rides. You can even challenge yourself in a weekly time trial, complete with time keepers that will provide a spread sheet of your splits/results so that you can track your improvement all season long.

Bonuses:
Membership in the Baydogs includes membership in the Ontario Association of Triathletes (OAT). As such members receive a subscription to Triathlon Magazine Canada, and also qualify for discounts on OAT sanctioned races. This also means that Baydog sanctioned training events will be insured.
