Guelph Lakes 1

Congrats to Joanne Merkley who finished 5/46 in her age category at Saturday's Guelph Sprint. From what I heard from more than a few sources was the race was crowded almost too crowded. The weather wasn't ideal either. MH, Michael Colquhoun & Lloyd Smith also competed in the sprint all doing very well. On Sunday again Joanne & MH competed. As usual MH performs exceedingly well. Shawn Patton, Kirsten Lowery, along with many others from the Barrie area took place. A special congratulations to Allan Johnston who finished 5th in his age category. Congrats Allan. Barb tells me she wants to get you out to the Barrie Masters. Something to look at. Guelph Olympic is a beautiful course, the swim of 1500 m was a two loop 750 with a section of 40 m running on the beach. Competitors were asked to seed themselves based on their swimming strength for the mass start. However, race starter did nothing to reinforce the order on the beach. The swim to T1 was a fair jog. The first 5km of the bike the road conditions were rough but thereafter were great. The run was almost trail like. All & all a very good course, one that i will do again perhaps Gulph Lake II.

Cold Water / Muskoka Long

Congratulations are in order to Kevin White, Ross Fenton, Mark Harrison, Genevieve Blais, Calvin Chu, Carlos Vichez and Joe Polcz.
I'm told the water was quite numbing but became somewhat tolerable as you entered the narrows. To anyone from the KTC i may have missed , please send me a note.

Muskoka Sprint 6/13/09

Barrie Triathletes continue to impress. Many from Trikinggator Land competed on Saturday afternoon dipping into the springlike? water of Muskoka. Congratulations to, smiling Leslie McLeod, Jackie Herbst, Mark Herbst, Lloyd Smith, Mark "i'm still 19" Harrison, as well as to all those other triathletes from Barrie. Mark Harrison after admitting he ran the last part of Ironman South Africa in his bare feet finished 11th overall with an amazing time of 1:09:42. Folks, we will find out but, i think it has something to do with that new breakfast cereal Mark is devouring. Lloyd Smith finished 36th overall with a ripping time of 1:16. Lloyd super job! Then there is Mark Herbst who i had the extreme pleasure of getting to know in the Barrie Masters. Mark is 52 with a body of a 24 year old year. Mark finished 15th overall with a time of 1:11, although i will have to ask him about his swim time. Unless for some strange reason Mark decided to swim "fly". All kidding aside, a remarkable outing for everyone.
