Undalay Undalay !!!Race notes from IM Cozumel Mark Harrison

Race was great...venue was beautiful, everything was setup really well....expo / race start / hotel was quite a distance apart, and then where they had the mandatory meeting to where they held the pre dinner was A LONG WAYS apart...but overall, pre race was great and pretty easy to figure out (not much lott available and not much of a "tech assistance" area)

Race morning, pretty much all hotels had shuttles (even if it wasnt a "Official" hotel) They left the hotel @ 5am to take us to the race start....Bikes were in a secure area, no issues there...
They had the Mexican national anthem, had some dolphins doing some tricks...told everyone to get our asses in the water and by the time I was in the water 4mins the race started (no real pre-warmup swim, but you could get in roughly 15mins before the start and do a little warmup)

Swim was UNBELIEVABLE. Gorgeous water, fish/mantarays/divers..everything (other than sharks) were underneath you while swimming...Best part of the race by far...Its a one loop swim, and past the 2nd buoy, got caught up in a big pack trying to get around and got hit on the ankle a few times...didnt hurt too much, but didnt use it much until the stinging subsided...the main leg of the swim went really fast (current was with us) and you could tell...rounding the submarine (yes, submarine) and back home...the "back home" part hurt a little...you're now fighting the current of course...Got out of the water (had no clue how quick, because I forgot my watch at home, and only had a heart rate watch that wasnt water proof) but once up on the landing in T1 my ankle was throbbing, and I hobbled my way thru, lol...

Got onto the bike and knew that this would be a quick start but that I would pay in the end...first stretch (tail wind) hitting 40km most of the way...past our hotel and into the first turn, wind hits you like a bag of bricks...40 went to 26km and quick!!! so, 15km really fast, 30km really slow...15km really fast...that was the break down of the 3 loops of the bike...oh, and I got a flat...30km into the bike (I have to get it checked, but I think I have something in my back rim) regardless, got a flat...fixed it in about 10mins and was on the go...45km in, my bike bag dropped off the back (decided to put it in the water holder, instead of fastening it to save time, good idea right?? lol) Going thru the town (50km to approx 60km...etc...etc) was amazing...Crazy little mexicans screaming us on...it was funny as hell...VAMOS VAMOS...UNDALAY, UNDALAY (thats not how you spell it, but you get the idea) It was amazing...

T2 was relatively smooth..it was the first time I had actually seen it...because T1 and T2 are in 2 different locations...throw the bike away, change into my runners and get my ass in gear..First loop feels great, ankle holds up...but 2nd and 3rd loop were horrible...Ankle felt fine, but top of my foot was killing me...compensating for that from 14k to 21k I got a couple blisters on my left foot...so, as is my "calling card" off come the shoes at the 24km mark...
I think some people are making cleaver jokes, but I cant understand (dont speak mexican) but at least this time Im smart and drop the shoes with Nat at the 28k mark....I had walked quite a bit, and told her this next loop will be a while...started "speed" walking, pressure on the top of the foot was pretty bad...but with 3 miles left, started to run again...and finished in a relatively decent time considering my training regimen (if you can call it that)

VIP food was great...free booze was nice in VIP...food was pretty damn good...Taxi service was crazy and getting all your stuff was pretty easy once the race was done...which is good and bad (easily stolen at the end, if they wanted it)

Overall...it was amazing....the island was great, people came out in droves to support...and even the people at the hotel when we got back with the bike gave us (and everyone else that returned with a bike) an ovation...which was a pretty good feeling!!!!

So thats it in a nutshell...I'm gonna send this to a couple people, but you HAVE TO DO THIS RACE...its a great spot for an Ironman and a vacation!!!!

Race Notes from 70.3 Longhorn by Kevin White

Post Race Notes for Ironman Longhorn 70.3, Austin Texas by Kevin White

I flew to Austin for what was an extended weekend...the flight was cheap
and the accommodations were very reasonable making this a great venue for
my travelling road show!

The first thing I noticed upon arrival in Texas was the HEAT! I knew it
was going to be HOT but WOW!! Without a lot of time I knew I would just
have to tough it out as I wouldn't get a chance to acclimatize.

The race site was VERY STRANGE...with two completely separate transition
areas. One by the lake and the other approx. two kilometres away near the
finish line. The transitions were clean and everything had to be unpacked
and repacked whilst in transition. It took a little extra time but they
did ship your stuff to the finish line for you.

Race morning was perfect for temperature at around 70 degrees but the winds
were between 15 to 20 miles per hour. Due to the wind, the swim was
choppy. The water temperature was 75 degrees and some locals almost
refused to get in...saying it isn't fair to make us swim in such cold
temperatures. Wetsuits and all!

The bike was interesting to say the least!! Very windy with the ranches
spreading across the countryside (I can now tell the difference between cow
and horse manure), forcing the riders to stay aerodynamic as much as
possible. Hillier than I was expecting as well...again the locals claim,
ya know this is where Lance trains!! The roads were in VERY bad shape.
In Ontario they fill the cracks with asphalt...there they just spray
painted them yellow so you could try and avoid falling in! The drought
like conditions have severely damaged the roads and you had to stay very
mentally focused and often travel to the other side of the road to avoid
the damage. I managed to "steer" clear of the cracks and finished feeling
strong.

The run was a three "looper" and a couple of big hill climbs played on your
mind as it seemed like you were constantly running uphill. The temperature
was in the mid 80's by this point but the aid stations were plentiful and
the options were endless!! Cold towels, sponges, water guns, nutrition,
and cheerleaders were throughout the course.

The finish line was inside the rodeo arena (similar to a hockey arena
without ICE) and upon finishing you get a ice cold BEER!! That was a first
for me, but a tradition I look forward to continuing. The food wasn't very
good...you had an option between a baked potato OR a taco...and yes only
ONE! No seconds of food...but you could have another beer!!

The Texas hospitality was great...from folks helping with directions and
course orientation, what seemed like thousands of volunteers, and nice
people even drove me home after the event.

Some suggestions if you're thinking of doing this race...stay
downtown...there is nothing, and I mean nothing once you get outside the
city limits. Rent a car...everything is FAR and the taxis were expensive.
Make sure you have a fridge in your room as the restaurants aren't what we
are used to back home. Be ready to drink a beer after your race...this
could take some getting used to!! Don't think because it's in Texas that
it's going to be expensive...the entire trip cost me less than the hotel
room at Deerhurst. I would strongly recommend this race!!

Q & A w/ Mischele Stevens KTC President

Mischele Stevens is the Kempenfelt Tri Club President and has done an amazing job serving in this role. I know all of us in the Club thank you. It isn't always the easiest job.

1) The KTC had an amazing year ; what in your mind sticks out as the biggest accomplishment or moment ?
Since I have to choose just one accomplishment or moment, I would choose the accomplishment of all the KTC members that finished their first Ironman. It is a big personal accomplishment and this year we had many members that reached that goal.

2) Do you have a major goal for the Club in 2010 that you would like to see achieved?
Its basically the same goal I have every year. To be bigger and better than the year before. And to have great workouts and more people out to the workouts

3) Is it true that your husband is secretly building the KTC a new Club House out on the 6th Line, or is this just a viscous rumour ?
You know the saying...its classified. Wouldn't that be nice.
4) Currently how many members do we have & how many are named Joe ? Jill ?
KTC has 41 paid members. There were a few people that came out to a workout or two but never signed up. Also, there are many that asked to be on the email list, so hopefully they will sign up next year.

5) Do you have a target number to grow the membership for 2010 ? 50 would be good, the highest yet.

6) Mischele, personally what are your goals for 2010 ? Races, your training business? other ? I only did one race this year - Florida 70.3 and then decided to retire from racing. Like all others, I miss the sport too much to stay away. Since I have a bum knee, I will do a couple swim/bikes in 2010 and maybe something else that peaks my interest. I will do Lake Placid 2011. And who knows from there.
As for my coaching business, I hope to be busier than last year and to see my all my athletes meet their race goals. Watch out!

Michelle, any last comments ?
To all KTC members present and future....what do you want to see from KTC 2010? Or should I say the soon to be named Barrie Club 2010?

Kevin in Austin Texas / gettin' ready

Tomorrow's race day for the KTC's Kevin White. It looks like temperatures in Austin will be 27 degrees celsius with a chance of showers. This is perfect, absolutely perfect,.... because these are almost the spot on, identical conditions Kevin was training through leading up to his departure, up in his R500 factor insulated attic with a leaky roof.
Kevin, bud the club wishes well from back home in Canada.

Kevin White in Texas.

Kevin White is sitting in Austin, Texas as you read this getting ready to do the 70.3 Longhorn.

Thanks for 2009

Thank you all for a great 2009 Season! Thanks to our President Mischele Stevens for her energy. It isn't always an easy job. It's time to keep the momentum going. Preparing for 2010. The Speed Work drills worked well with Theo & Kevin on Wednesday nights. The Time Trials worked well & we can most likely adapted a south end route too. We're looking into the possibility of a Pilates class and the club should have a new identity prior to December. Thanks to Carlos, a new logo will be launched. Stay tuned for more & as always please provide your feedback.

Now, it's Your Turn, Let us Know.

Unsolicited of course, we have had some other suggestions besides the ones you can vote on. Keep in mind the name should meet three criteria, a) originality b) does it relate to a Triathlon theme and c) will it be impactful to others.
Some other other names suggested were ; the Blizt, the Bobcats, the Breakway, the Tritons, the Full Pedal jackets. Remember, to some, "Art" is just a name.

Friday, September 18, 2009

picking a new name

Help us select a new name for the club. First we will be known as the Barrie Triathlon Club or the Triathlon Club of Barrie. Gone will be the reference to "Kempenfelt".
Carlos, Mischele & I have spent some time reviewing a large list of names and we have narrowed it down to (1) The Barrie Bulldogs (2) The Barrie Carbon Trilliums and (3) the "adjective" Kellies, (ie: the fighting kellies).
Take a moment & vote.

70.3 Muskoka Spectacular

They came from everywhere. I sat on the bus next to a guy from Arizona. Why did he make the trip to 70.3 Muskoka, because he had heard "good things about it". The morning was a typical Muskoka morning for September, & the man from Arizona ask "if this weather normal for around here?" There was an entire representative from the Buffalo Tri Club & more.
Easily 70.3 Muskoka is one of the best races to do & the best thing it's in our own backyard. The organizers & volunteers are top knotch. The swag or "goodie bags" are not only excellent but creative with some originality.
Now for the race itself. Don't kid yourself it's challenging. This is not 70.3 Florida or Steelhead. The only thing flat about this course was the swim. First steeple is the mountain climb from the water to T1. I'm guessing somewhere between 500-600 m and all up hill. The bike course was exactly as last year, however i truly don't remember it being as hilly especially the last 20k. The fans in Dorset are amazing ; its such a lift going thru this elegant town. That brings us to the run. Last year the complaint was the run was suicidal. This year they modified the run course so it was just tortuous. Congratulations to John Dow, John Welsh, Ross Fenton, Calvin Chu, Scott Whynot, Kimberely Lowery, Kevin McCormick, Marie White, Brent Boden, John Bradbury, Michael Colquhoun, Carlos Vilchez, Shannon Bebard & more. Thanks to the fans of KTC for coming out and cheering, you know who you are, Joe, Mark, Heather, Nathan, Fenton & Family and i know i have missed many of you.

Q & A w/ Joanne Merkley

Q1. So Joanne, is Ironman Canada your first Ironman ?

Yes Jamie- I was one of the 800 virgins of 2800 in this race. I always said people who did Ironman races were extremists who had an unusual desire for self-abuse.

Q2. What did you eat the night before and what did you eat for breakfast @ IMCan?

Hmmmm. The night before I had a juicy chicken breast, pasta, salad and garlic bread. I passed on the Skor Ice Cream offer.

Breakfast consisted of oatmeal, a PC Chocolate Ultra Shake, coffee, an unsuccessful attempt at a bagel, half a banana and a couple of gels right before the swim (along with some eload,Gatorade TM and water).

Q3. You had an amazing time. What was your focus ?

My focus was I had to do well enough that Nat wouldn't lose her job for letting me wear the Gatorage tri top! Otherwise, my focus was on going hard but having fun, enjoying the scenery, staying social and being safe. I felt pretty grateful to have the chance to do the race. I didn't know how my body would react to the distance and the conditions so I wanted to try to keep it all together for the duration. I am happy about all aspects of the race but I realize I could have pushed myself harder the second half of the run. There were a lot of people really struggling and I was afraid I might become one of them.

Q4. What was your biggest surprise about Penticton ?

It was astonishing to see the numbers of people lining every km of the bike and run course. People literally pulled you up the lllooooonnnnnggggg bike climbs with their cheering, genuine comments and antics. The spirit, heat, hills, beauty of the course... were all very pleasant surprises. Vineyards everywhere and fresh fruit to eat all around you. Lake Okanagan is beautiful water to swim in.

Q5. Tell us about the swim start & the swim itself ?

The group hug on the beach was the best. I managed to find Kevin and Shawn and we shared a moment. Christian- couldn't find you but you were likely up with the pros! Then we headed our own ways- Kevin to find his special place, Shawn to relieve himself (AKA warm-up swim) and me to my chosen spot towards the left end of the diagonal line where I thought other people around my predicted time would be. It was terrific to run into Nathania (Gatorade Girl) and her Mom Jane. We shared a group hug, got into the water to warmup and then didn't see each other until later in the day.

After the warm-up swim some incredibly inspirational music was playing that was pretty moving. I thought I would need to be slapped before the start but I felt a wave of calm that was reassuring. The gun went off and it seemed like there was me and the blue caps everywhere. Once everyone got in deep enough to swim it got crazy but not too much so. You just had to keep moving and watch for flying fists. The difficulty was in the broad shoulders of all the men, as well as those around me who liked the zig-zagged approach. By about 1 km my right eye was burning. It seems the normally water proof sunblock wasn't quite so waterproof- learned a valuable lesson there as I had to do the rest of the swim with one eye and have been treating my eyes ever since. Making it around the first house boat felt great and the swim across to the next house boat went quite well. I had a better rhythm going by then. The swim back in seemed longer than I anticipated but the long pull/glide really helped. When we got about 300m from shore, you seemed to catch a nice current that helped you along. It was great to see people standing in the water cheering you up to land. I didn't even think to look at the clock when I got out of the water.

Q6. Did you see anyone on the course from Barrie ? What exactly did you say to Shawn Patton when you passed him on the bike.

I saw several people at different points in time (surprisingly as it's really all single looped). I saw Shawn on the out and back at Cawson towards the special needs area so technically I DID pass him on the bike! That was the hottest area at 34 degrees.

I saw famous firefighter Kevin on the run, as well as Nat, Andrew, Shawn and Jane, all with team Gatorade. Shawn had to pick it up for the second half of the run because I saw him just before I hit the turnaround in OK Falls. It was very impressive to see Christian on the run as he was out front and looking good! Also very impressive to see Andrew even earlier on. He would have been under 10:00 but unfortunately ran into some nutrition issues shortly after I saw him.

Q7. What's next ?

Hockey season, training (getting my run back), skate skiing, snowboarding, time for fine wine...

I signed up for Placid for 2010 and if all goes well, Switzerland in 2011. Maybe next spring I'll run that full marathon I was planning for last fall before that "knee" incident at the rink. I'm planning on doing the Rideau Canal speed skate, ski, snowshoe race this winter.

Q&A with Mark Harrison

Mark Harrison was born in North Bay, ON went to school at 2 French schools (Frere Andre and Ecole La Source) and High school - Barrie North Collegiate -- Georgian College & currently is the part-owner of Huronia Transportation. Besides being an avid Triathlete, Mark likes to spend therapeutic time at his cottage as well as listen to music, play guitar, dine out , and watch NFL Football.

Q1 You recently did 70.3 Steelhead in Benton Harbor, what did you like about the course ? Steelhead was amazing...super fast course...The swim is a point to point with the current...If current is going South to North...thats the way you swim...The bike was challenging...relatively flat, but heading out you had a tail wind, sure enough, 45k at the end of the race, you had the head wind...and the run was quite fast as well...alot of the time you felt you were running downhill... Only 2 semi-challenging hills, but the rest of the race was perfect...

Q2 Tell us about running barefoot both at IMSouth Africa & Boston Marathon ? In SA, during the bike course, I had quite a few troubles...poor nutrition, lack of proper fluid at aid stations...just didnt really prepare myself as well as I should have...so getting off the bike, my legs were cramping and just didn't want to move..Plus, I had started to form a blister on both my feet...during the first loop of the run (3 loops in total) the blister worsened, and by the halfway point of the second loop, around 16km to go...I did the only thing I could think of...take both shoes off and run with just my socks...This actually helped me out in more ways then one...Not only were my feet feeling better because I wasnt rubbing the blisters, but with the shoes being off, there was extra weight with each step and it made me lighter while running...Still had my worst ever marathon, but its all about the adventure...
For Boston, I races SA on April 5th, 09...got back into Ontario on April 16th, flew out to Boston on April 17th, and raced the Marathon on April 20th...So 15days after my feet were left raw and damaged, I was running another marathon...I tried a different pair of shoes (needless to say, I sure as heck wasnt gonna wear the other pair) and they were lighter (Zoot Ultras 2.0) but still with about 8k to go, those blisters opened up again, and off came the shoes!!!
You actually get more praise and more cheers with your shoes off!! so that was helping!

Q3 I understand you come from a swimming background. Did you take lessons as boy, swim varsity, become a Lifeguard that sort of thing? My swimming background was from when I was 4-7yrs old and did the YMCA learning programs...We have a family cottage just south of Parry Sound, so I was definitly a water baby...but in general...I don't really have a background in anything!!

Q4. Is it true you sometimes where eye shadow ? Only if the mood is right, the lights are dim...and there is a crapload of booze!! but not usually ;) (note ~ not to be taken seriously)

Q5. I can't help but notice that both you & Shawn Patton shave your legs ? What's the edge here or is this a metrosexual thing ? its a little of both...Shawn likes the feel (note ~ censor had to remove the next six paragraphs) ......me, I just look sexier...most girls feel that way, (again censor had to jump in here...) unhum,,,next question.

Q6. The next bike you buy will be a? I couldnt tell ya...this past May I bought a 2008 Orbea Ordu, 606 Zipp wheels, Full Durace, with Zipp Vuka Aerobars..San Marco saddle, with Xlab Carbon Wing for the hydration at the back...Rides like a charm, but you definitly can feel the road alot more...My last bike was a 05 Cervelo, P2 Dualist...So we will wait to see what my next purchase will be,...but it wont be for a couple years...

Q7. If there is one bit of advice you could give a new triathlete, what would that advice be? set goals for every race.
whether it be to finish a sprint...an Olympic....a Half or Full Ironman....always have a goal and strive to attain it...you want to beat 1hr30mins in a sprint...then do it...just dont give up!! and always, always find a balance between life and training...dont live to train....train to live :)
Q8. On August 4th in the Barrie Examiner a young man completed his first Ironman at Lake Placid. The paper gave him the moniker of "IronPhil". Any comments? Well...don't want to say too much on paper...because in the end he did beat me...but IronPhil is a little overboard after just one Ironman...maybe "Aluminum Phil" or "tinfoil Phil"...seriously tho, that kid had an amazing swim...54mins and change is right up there with the pros...if he focuses on the bike and run, he will be a tough triathlete...but I'll be willing to take on the challenge!!!
Q9. How was the Barrie Tri? The Barrie tri is a blast..with it being my local race, I always want to do well, and there seems to be tons of "athletic supporters" out there come race day. in 08 I came in first overall by 3secs...so this year, I knew a few people would come and claim the title...I figured that 2 in particular would beat me, and that I would place a respectable 3rd overall..which I did...but its nice to see so many people from the KTC out either racing, or volunteering...from Mischele, Gary and Leslie, to Jamie Nielsen, Nathan and Mojo volunterring (sorry if I forgot anyone) and then to see Shawn Patton, Lloyd and Kirsten, Jon Dow, Kevin (and his wife-forget her name) it was just great to see us represented... I will be trying to get in to speak with the race organizers this year and see if I can help out with the direction the race will take in the next few years...I want it to keep its local feel to it, but also be one of the best independant races around...which I feel we would have no problems accomplishing.

IM UK

The KTC has a member competing in this weekends IM UK. You my know him, he teaches at Forest Hill. No that's not a delinquent school, it is where the folks of Midhurst send their offspring to be educated. This former photographer was born & raised in Windsor, On. and didn't see a hill until he was nearly 14 yrs of age when on a family excursion they past through Chatham,ON. that has an overpass. His name Tim Hatch. In New Mexico they have name a city after him. Tim has never been on Oprah or Jimmy Fallon. His favourite coffee is Starbucks. He puts mayonnaise on his pancakes and likes bright coloured socks. Tim is well educated and is an avid reader. He can recite "Green Eggs & Ham" from memory. His favourite movie is "Spiderman". Tim spends most of his time staying in touch with his lovely Mother or straighten the spokes on his Specialized bike. Tim is a naturally gifted athlete. Many, might not know this, but Tim played WR in High School football & today still plays goalie. For years, I thought this was just a tale or he was simply delusional until recently I saw first hand an expensive pair of hand-stitched goalie pads in Tim's basement. I figure know one in their right mind would go the those extraordinary lengths just to say they play between the pipes. Tim also enjoys map-reading, puzzles, monopoly, trident gum, cooking, and sanding wood. Tim has competed in many Ironman events including Louisville, Arizona, Lake Placid & Elmvale. This coming sunday Tim will make us proud and compete against the Brits in IM Uk. Go get em Tim.

TT Results July 29th

At Tuesday Time trials Kirsten Lowery rocked. Kirsten is in line for most improved KTC member of the year! Kirsten knocked 2 minutes off her PB time. I'd also like to mention that John Welsh (not to be confused with Joe Walsh who sang 'rocky mountain high") knocked 20 seconds off his PB. Both these accomplishments are large in stature as the crosswinds were gusting at significant levels.

Before the Thunder in Bala

What a magnificent place. 432 finishes did the Bala Sprint as part of HSBC race. KTC was well represented. Matt "King Lear" Doucette punished the course with a time of 1 hr 55 mins. John Welsh showed he's got the magic with a time of 1 hr 51 mins. Kirsten Lowery placed a very respectable time of 2 hrs & 4mins. Paul Mallory finished with a time of 2 hrs & 24 mins.
Lloyd Smith had an amazing time of 1 hr 44 minutes. John Dow hammered the course with a time 1 hr 42 minutes. Asked after the race for any insider secrets, John replied, "always get yourself into the yellow swim caps as they have least resistance & drag of all the colour spectrum in fresh water lakes" Yours truly had a great race as well with the best swim of the year 15 m 10s perhaps indicating all that time in the water & with the Barrie Masters is starting to pay off.

Harrison & White @ IM LP

A huge congratulations to Kevin White & Mark Harrison who conquered IM Lake Placid yesterday. Mark's innovative tamper proved successful with a time of 11 hours & 53 minutes. Meanwhile the Fire Fighter Kevin White had a great race with an overall time of 12 hours & 54 minutes. KTC congratulates you both on your splendid races. Cheers!

Barefoot

There has been some advantages put forth to walking & running barefoot. I read this article in this morning's Globe & Mail, & immediately thought of the time Shawn Patton ran a Sprint race barefoot or more recently when Mark Harrison at IM South Africa removed his shoes and ran barefoot for the last portion of the race.

Club Championships Results

Boo Hoo! We didn't make it in the top 3 of the Club Championships, as we have the past 2 years. The club that won is very small so its easy to score higher. They won last year with only 12 members! So, be proud to have such a big club and we can always get 'em next year! Great Job to those that made it in the race and made us look good! GO KTC GO!

Guelph Lakes 1

Congrats to Joanne Merkley who finished 5/46 in her age category at Saturday's Guelph Sprint. From what I heard from more than a few sources was the race was crowded almost too crowded. The weather wasn't ideal either. MH, Michael Colquhoun & Lloyd Smith also competed in the sprint all doing very well. On Sunday again Joanne & MH competed. As usual MH performs exceedingly well. Shawn Patton, Kirsten Lowery, along with many others from the Barrie area took place. A special congratulations to Allan Johnston who finished 5th in his age category. Congrats Allan. Barb tells me she wants to get you out to the Barrie Masters. Something to look at. Guelph Olympic is a beautiful course, the swim of 1500 m was a two loop 750 with a section of 40 m running on the beach. Competitors were asked to seed themselves based on their swimming strength for the mass start. However, race starter did nothing to reinforce the order on the beach. The swim to T1 was a fair jog. The first 5km of the bike the road conditions were rough but thereafter were great. The run was almost trail like. All & all a very good course, one that i will do again perhaps Gulph Lake II.

Cold Water / Muskoka Long

Congratulations are in order to Kevin White, Ross Fenton, Mark Harrison, Genevieve Blais, Calvin Chu, Carlos Vichez and Joe Polcz.
I'm told the water was quite numbing but became somewhat tolerable as you entered the narrows. To anyone from the KTC i may have missed , please send me a note.

Muskoka Sprint 6/13/09

Barrie Triathletes continue to impress. Many from Trikinggator Land competed on Saturday afternoon dipping into the springlike? water of Muskoka. Congratulations to, smiling Leslie McLeod, Jackie Herbst, Mark Herbst, Lloyd Smith, Mark "i'm still 19" Harrison, as well as to all those other triathletes from Barrie. Mark Harrison after admitting he ran the last part of Ironman South Africa in his bare feet finished 11th overall with an amazing time of 1:09:42. Folks, we will find out but, i think it has something to do with that new breakfast cereal Mark is devouring. Lloyd Smith finished 36th overall with a ripping time of 1:16. Lloyd super job! Then there is Mark Herbst who i had the extreme pleasure of getting to know in the Barrie Masters. Mark is 52 with a body of a 24 year old year. Mark finished 15th overall with a time of 1:11, although i will have to ask him about his swim time. Unless for some strange reason Mark decided to swim "fly". All kidding aside, a remarkable outing for everyone.
