Get'cher Groove On

So, it is January and Spring seems to be far in the distance, but you should take to heart the advice posted on my classroom wall, "Warning: due dates are closer than they appear."

That next adventure race, sprint triathlon, Spring du, or season's goal is actually peering at you in the not so distant future. Why not take advantage of some of the great group training activities offered up as either official Barrie T.C. events (like the Tues eve run and Wed eve speed sessions) or some informal ones like the spin classes at Holly on Monday night (I hear they are fantastic), or the Hour of Power at Allandale on Wed night (a killer for the fittest out there), or some of the morning swim sessions that other Barrie T.C. members have been meeting and swimming together during (re: East Bayfield Tues & Thurs AM).

The point is, get out there and get your season going. You don't have to, "Kill it!" but take a page out of Lance's book (whether you like him or not, he was a triathlon phenom back in the day - which, as Dane Cook reminds us, was a Wednesday). In other words, prepare yourself for the stress you are going to put your body through.

Said stress, is of course, relative, so don't think I am prescribing some sort of Fab-4 massive training volume at this time of the year. Canada in winter is not SoCal, hence is not conducive to such outdoor endeavours. What I am trying to remind you is pull a Nike, "Just do it!" Or if you dislike winter as much as I do, think like Adidas, "Impossible is nothing." or if you are more of a Sid the Kid fan, it's "Your move." What ever slogan you prefer, what ever gets you out the door, your body will thank you when you toe the line this summer, at your neoprene clad gathering of choice, this side of the Semi-annual Bakersfield, Va. Germaphobe Convention.

I leave you with my favourite of late, "Do or do not, there is no try." -Yoda. Or as I have begun to envision it, "Tri or tri not, there is no Du."

Peace out, T. Hatch.

There's also spinning/ muscle combo classes at East Bayfield CC on Saturday and Sunday mornings (10am and 9am respectively). The spots go quickly this time of year so you best get there 15 minutes early to get a bike!! There's a few Baydog regulars at both classes. See you there!!
