This week a tragedy occurred in Quebec where a pick-up truck struck and killed three triathletes on their way to a training camp. An event like this will play on all of our minds every time we suit up to go for a ride. As we ride we must all remember our vulnerability and act accordingly. Road safety is something we must never become lazy about. We need to make sure we take appropriate roads for our training, ensure our bikes are in good operational condition, follow all the rules of the road (which are virtually the same as for an automobile). On top of this we have to remember that even if we were right we will never win in a disagreement with a vehicle, so we must always be cautious and avoid risky situations out-right. A wise man once said; “One thing you do not want written on your tombstone is “He had the right-of-way””.
When in doubt, get off the road!
Here is a link describing the event.
